Morality and the Debate Over Realistic Dildos

Table of Contents

The boundaries between reality and imagination are becoming more porous with the development of realistic dildo technology. Contrasting crude, ungainly models, our new realistic dildos pay very close attention to numerous nuances - body type, color, texture, and simply the 'look' of something real. Simulating near actual-life sexual encounters is one of their primary purposes. Ethical and moral discussions surrounding realistic dildos stem directly from these similarities to said real life.

Some people think realistic dildos are a great way for girls to express themselves sexually; others see the more negative aspects of objectification. Feminists, at least some of them, argue that realistic dildos are insufficient in making any form of true sexual consent, men's aggression against women being a direct (or at least partially) justified outcome. How true are these assertions? Learning about realistic sex role-play immersion - ass inserts being the most common example - and all that follows from it is what I am personally interested in. This blog will explore every possible ethical and near-philosophical question that arises.

Why do so many people feel uncomfortable using them?

The Goals of Women: People are objectified when seen as things, not sentient beings with all the small and large scale feelings, thoughts, and actions they possess. Realistic dildos normalize this to some degree; anti-social views of all people (women being the primary target) are a byproduct. Consistent usage of the realistic dildos encourages the very concept of sexual partners being objectified, dehumanized or otherwise reduced to a pre-determined set of behaviors and/or feelings of 'desire'.

Males may and do objectify women. Skeptics of the feminist movement at least want to see women free from all or part of that objectification. Realistic dildos, to me at least, are a part of the culture of objectification we all wish to move past. Women (and all of us) are and always will be, to some degree, human.

In a similar vein, there are radical feminists who believe that realistic dildos are an expression of a purely male society. Testosterone-filled phalluses inhabit the realms of power - society, academia, and various forms of industry. Negative objectification is at play here; phalluses are built by men to appease some form of inherent male inevitability, perpetuating all sorts of harmful societal practices, collective women's harm being one of them.

Sexual conduct, even within the legally recognized context of marriage, requires the agreement of both partners. Engaging in sexual relations using life-size dildos removes this aspect of consent completely. Owners of these realistic sex toys see them as personal property, giving themselves (and often others) the near absolute freedom to act on whatever they choose. Arguing that more and more realistic dildo designs are normalizing violence against women and/or forced prostitution is a valid concern - the previously mentioned objectifying concepts are reinforced.

From what angle may we see the usage of forced dildos?

A word about realistic dildos: they're inanimate. We must always utilize realistic dildos in a manner that honors some small or large degree of human dignity and autonomy; safe and harmless conduits are what we want them to be. Reinforcing the negative societal assumptions about women (and men) is not the end result we desire.

What are some healthy ways to use real dildos?

Even if realistic dildos aren't 'genuine', you should still not handle them in a way that causes discomfort to yourself or others.

When using a realistic dildo, it is important to at least consider other people's tastes. Your spouse may be willing to use it, but do not force them. Real or imagined, a realistic technology is just a tool to us all - and to some degree, to society, a real or partial experience of love and/or connection can be (and should be) a part of our lives. Realistic or not, we all need to be free to use realistic dildos, and to be human.

    Last Remarks

No one can dispute the fact that compelled realistic dildos, when discussing the ethical implications of their use, are not inherently detrimental to society.  In the society, realistic dildos are considered to have social relevance due to the moral and ethical problems that are produced around them due to their social function, which is mainly behind the social significance of these objects.  Realistic dildos are actual hand puppets whose use can be used to level the playing field between the sexes due to their ability to channel human desires in a manner that can level social playing fields between the sexes.
