How to Use a Dildo: A Guide for Beginners & Beyond

Table of Contents

Do you have any experience with sex toys? Have you actually played with one before? A dildo, specifically, is likely something you have tried at least once in your life. The smaller pleasure rods that are so commonly found in all sorts of collections are near universal; a guide on how to use one would then seem almost unnecessary to many people.

You may know where a dildo goes, but knowing that simple physical act does not equal well using it. Knowledge of 'where' is only the first step.

Like any sex toy, a dildo is highly versatile - various ways of using it are all part of maximizing what the toy has to offer. The 'using' process itself includes different techniques, some form of position (physical or more abstractly mental), trying new things with it; pushing all possible boundaries of use is a large part of the entire experience.

Exploring every single thing your dildos can offer is important. Expert or not, beginning or near-endless: using a dildo (to me at least) will always be a personal, ever changing experience.

What's the Big Deal About Dildos?

Consider the scenario in which you have just arrived on Earth from a faraway galaxy. It has been some time since you last watched. Common among these "hu-men" is the practice of spending their evenings inserting these little rods into their bodies. Why is this happening?

The first sex toy you ever encounter is here, my space-traveling friend. These incredible devices were designed for one specific purpose: pure and simple pleasure.

Whether simple or otherwise fantastical, almost any shape or size of these tools can be found. A humble dildo is the simplest form. Design does not have to resemble a penis; realistic textures (small or large) can be achieved.

The penises themselves are not solely human. Dog cocks, horse cocks, near-infinite fantasy shaped dildos (dragons being the prime example) all have their valid uses.

Defining a dildo does not depend on shape. All materials - metal, silicone, plastic, glass, etc. - are susceptible to change. Future human (and non-human) pleasure will involve vibrations, temperature, at least partially ejaculating dildos. Dildos, to me, are and will always be a beautiful, near perfectly simple means of that all encompassing pleasure.

As a simple toy can produce such near all encompassing pleasure, our alien observers would be surprised to hear us say we ever had "normal" sex.

So, How Do You Use a Dildo?

There must be a lot of options currently available when it comes to using a dildo. It's not! I'm glad to tell you this. Dildos are among the easiest sex toys. Initiating that specific form of sexual activity is one of their primary strengths. Knowing how to use a penis (to at least some small degree) translates directly to knowing how to use a dildo. Easy use is, to me, the most positive aspect of them. Simple, repeated use of any and all dildos I've tried has only further solidified this point.

Let’s begin with the basic steps:

You should begin by ensuring that your dildo is clean and in good condition. Refraining from using it if it has been damaged, or subjected to near constant poor wear and tear, is important. Maintaining a clean genital area is paramount; various types of bacteria introduced through use can lead to small but potentially serious health issues.

    • Get in the mood! Taking a few minutes to relax is key. The actual use of the dildo will be much more convenient when some form of arousal has set in. More enjoyable usage follows from this. Reading a steamy romance novel, watching a movie with a hot actor, or simple self touch to turn on are all ways to accomplish this.
    • Use Lubrication! Any sex toy (dildos being no exception) benefits from it. How wet you become doesn't negate the need - applying it to yourself and/or the dildo is encouraged. Anal dildos specifically see a huge improvement in all aspects of use through proper lubrication.
    • Try out different positions! Missionary style is not the only, or even best, way to use a dildo. The whole point of using one is to experiment - new 'greatnesses' of feeling will be discovered (personal to each individual). A partner may also become interested in participating.
    • Begin slowly! Shoving the whole thing in at once and rapidly thrusting is not the way to go. Small portions of the tip, working deeper over time, is ideal. Accelerating later on is fine, but the very first movements should be as gentle as possible.

The first step is to put a dildo in your body and move it around. Simple or not, I believe we all want to enjoy it. Enjoying a dildo (to me at least) is a part of being human.

By focusing on the right spots, you can increase that enjoyment. G-spots are considered a favorite spot for many women. Using vibrators is not necessary! Dildos can and will provide all forms of specific stimulation; the simple satisfaction of striking a particular area is part of the experience itself.

To hit the G-spot, changing the angle of the camera is the easiest method. During vaginal penetration, a large portion of the sensation comes from the near constant pressure (whatever is applying it) against the more internal parts of the clitoris. The depths of the G-spot lie holding this true nature of the phenomenon. Applying some form of pressure and/or rubbing against it is what leads to a pleasurable response.

This kind of precise stimulation is difficult to achieve with a penis - two factors being angles and the 'attachment' to another individual's body. A dildo removes both of those problems. Free movement, any and all angles, is to me the purest form of self-pleasure.

Those who are not satisfied with G-spots can try deep penetration. If you have a man with exceptional physical attributes, this may not be a new concept to you. Some dildos are so large that even the biggest guy cannot compete with them. Length and girth make them look like monsters. Providing experiences (of all types) through these is possible; cervix and/or anal stretching, fullness, etc. are all attainable.

Additionally, the forbidden fruit... the near-dangerous zone... people do not venture to this point.

Here we go. Anal stimulation is a real pleasure to me, and to many others I believe. Dildos are a great and very personal way of exploring all of it. Anal or otherwise, we all need to at least partially, enjoy ourselves.

In most cases, anal stimulation will not be as exciting as vaginal stimulation, but exploring it is still a worthwhile endeavor. Women, as they become more and more comfortable with any form of penetration (visual or physical), begin to combine it in every possible way. A double penetration, for example, is considered near perfect by many; the simple act of reaching that point brings a certain type of pleasure, followed by all out further exploration.

Women are not the only ones who benefit from Dildos. Pleasure poles specifically for men will see much fun being had in exploring their nether regions. The G-spot analog is the P-spot (prostate) if I recall correctly, located deep within the male pelvic area. Stimulating it pure and simple without some sort of device is near impossible.

It is fortunately possible to experience that deep pleasure mentioned above. The majority of people, male or female, will always find at least something to enjoy. Stimulation - anal or otherwise - is a universal need. Deep penetration (of whatever medium) is to a large part a part of being human. We all want to, or at least seek, that all encompassing pleasure.

Aftercare for You and Your Dildos

Most of you are probably familiar with the joys of decompressing following a sexual experience. Making that next experience even better is a near-perfect side effect of spending some time on aftercare.

You can do aftercare by talking about what you liked and what you didn't like. Playing alone? Thinking about it for a few minutes counts as aftercare. During this process thinking about 'how you'll do things differently next time' is part of it.

In spite of seeming like a small matter, sexual experiences are extremely vulnerable for us. Processing those feelings (subconscious or otherwise) is beneficial to all aspects of mental health.

After the mental aftercare has been completed, the physical follow-up can begin. Cleaning up is now the thing to do. We advise lubrication and thorough washing of the body afterwards.

Similar to your dildo, it needs to be cleaned. Warm, soapy water and a cloth should be sufficient; a more specific cleaning agent for sex toys if possible. Completely drying the dildo (and all parts of it) is important. Moisture left behind leads to mold, unpleasant surprises all too often. Cool, dry storage follows.

Where Do You Start Your Various Dildos?

How can you maximize your pleasure by selecting the right dildo? Despite how simple this question may seem, the answer is by no means straightforward. As a company, we do not focus on a single 'ideal' product.

Cases of G-spot stimulation being the most common example, shorter and more girthed dildos are often required. Deeper pleasure spots (the A-spot coming to mind) call for greater length. Individual preference is what truly determines which dildo will be selected - generic pleasure simply does not exist.

Complete beginners we find recommend something simple, not too wide, shorter if possible. Mastering the use of at least one dildo opens up near infinite (to them at least) selection options. Examples of various dildos and the subsequent pleasures they can bring are something we look forward to describing in future posts.

    Realistic Dildos

Many people get put off by sex toys because they look "weird." That's where realistic dildos come in. Designed to look just like the real thing, veins and all! The feel is also designed to at least partially mimic real skin. If an experience as close to sex as possible with toys is what you're after, a realistic dildo will not let you down.

    Curved Dildos

The most common version of a dildo you might imagine is the simple straight rod. With these you will need to find the 'right' angle to hit either a G spot or P spot. We are now long past the times when all sex toys were made the same. Curved dildos feature some form of slight curve; helping to target those previously unreachably deep spots. Gently curved to more drastically curved, experimenting is the only way to truly find what your body likes.

    Vibrating Dildos

Rather than settling for one toy, why not get a variety of them? Vibrating dildos have something quite magical about them. Combining the best of both worlds (static and vibrating) into one package, almost every possible desire one can have for a dildo is covered. Changing up the entire experience is simple; pattern and intensity levels can be adjusted to personal preference. Some people just cannot handle a regular dildo - vibrating being that much better, step by step, as a progression from it.

    Suction Cup Dildos

There are a number of things that can be frustrating about using any kind of dildo, manual holding being one of them. Using a form of suction cup dildo is what I refer to as the more 'authentic' experience. Attaching to some sort of flat surface allows all sorts of different positions to be tried, riding the dildo being the near perfect fullness you seek. My personal joy comes from this type of riding, continuous or otherwise; you will at least share in that joy.
